AMBER PIPER

     My work often explores dichotomy, ambiguity and imbalance. My art has addressed the nuanced relationship between states of growth and entropy, the blending of the organic and mechanical in medicine, and the continually changing boundaries separating our private and public lives. I find that jewelry is an ideal art form for examining the complex ways that the human body, both as a biological entity and a social construct, interacts with the world on a physical, psychological, social and emotional level.

     My recent work is inspired by aerial and microscope photography. It underlines the visual similarities that exist in natural systems when viewed on both the macro- and micro-scale. I am also currently working on a project about painting and the place of jewelry in the fine art tradition
